Panpan Yang 楊槃槃 is currently a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in the arts and visual cultures of modern China at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. She received her PhD degree from the University of Chicago. She recently completed a book manuscript, Animation Thinks: A Story of Media Entanglements in China, under contract with University of California Press. The book examines how animation thinks – not "thinks about" or "thinks through" – time and space to a degree unimaginable in other art forms.

Supported by an Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) grant, she is currently working on a new book project on calligraphic imagination in modern and contemporary China.
