Panpan

Panpan Yang 楊槃槃 is currently a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in the arts and visual cultures of modern China at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. She received her Ph.D. degree from the University of Chicago. She recently completed a book manuscript, Animation Thinks: A Story of Media Entanglements in China. The book examines how animation thinks – not "thinks about" or "thinks through" – time and space to a degree unimaginable in other media forms.
From 2023 to 2025, Panpan is the Principal Investigator of the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) funded research project on calligraphic imagination in contemporary art. As part of this project, she co-founded Small Gallery, an experimental art space in North London.
